The boys team placed third overall at the district tournament but with only the top two teams moving onto regionals, they’d see their season come to an end at Vaaler Creek on March 31. Freshman Cole Kirbo placed fifth overall, narrowly missing an individual spot at the regional tournament after scoring an 82 on day one and a 77 on the final day. Juniors Coy Needham and Tanner Wardlaw followed Kirbo as the next top contributors, finishing their two rounds in the low 80s.
“It came down to the last few holes and Cole hung in there,” Head Coach Jason Wahlers said. “This team will return all five players next year and make a run at a district title.”
The girls golf team finished sixth overall in district play with senior Sam Miethke led the team with an 86 and 85, just missing a regional sport. Sophomores Paris Shirley and Bethany Harkrider also finished the season with a personal best with Harkrider scoring the next lowest score with a 93.
“We’re really proud of this group and how much they have improved,” Wahlers said.
Miethke signed to play golf at Concordia University in Austin next fall.
