Students Named in Winter All-Central Texas Teams

Every year the Austin American-Statesman published the best of the best athletes for each sporting season. These athletes are from all over the Central Texas area and are from all school sizes. For the winter season installment, basketball, soccer, swimming, and wrestling were featured.

Girls Soccer:

Senior Emma Jones graced the front page as the Girls Soccer Player of the Year. Jones, a four-year varsity starter, plays center back and has helped lead her team to the District 25-5A title and to have a 21-1 record. Jones has signed with Southeastern Louisiana University.

Junior Sofia Piccuci, a three-year varsity starter who plays forward, got an honorable mention as well.

Freshman Taliyah Copeland was a finalist for Newcomer of the Year.

Boys Soccer:

Sophomore Adam Knutson made the All-Central Team. Knuston, a midfielder, had 20 goals for the Tigers and six assists, leading the team to a 20-3 record.

Senior Jalen Chavez, an all-state central defender for the Tigers, made the All-Central Team, and led his team to the District 25-5A title and 13 shutouts.

Wrestling:

Senior Chase Warden was honored as well. Warden is a four-time state placer with back-to-back state titles in the 5A 152-pound division. Warden went 34-0 this season and is recruited to Campbell University in North Carolina.
