The Dating Violence Awareness Board will be hosting the 8th annual Dating Violence Awareness Mock Trial, and we need your help making the event a success. Mark your calendars, this year the Mock Trial will be on Wednesday, Feb. 27. Auditions will be held Tuesday, Jan. 15 after school and Wednesday, Jan. 16 from 8-8:50 a.m. for leading roles including; prosecution attorneys and defense attorneys, the lead accuser, the lead accused, witnesses, bailiff, and timekeeper. If you don’t want a lead role but want to come and watch the trial that makes you a jury member. As a jury member, your job will be to watch the trial and deliberate. This means the jury meets in REAL courthouse jury rooms to discuss the evidence presented in court and decide whether the defendant is guilty or innocent. A general information meeting for all who is interested or will be attending will be held on Monday, Jan. 14 after school. If you are interested in being a jury member, you must be one of the first 120 students to sign up, fill out the permission slip (found at the counseling office or with Ms. Watts in room D115) and bring $10. The $10 donation is used to make this event run successfully and help cover the cost of your shirt and bus fees. Every year, the Dating Violence Awareness Board works to bring awareness to dating violence and its impacts on the lives of our peers and community. By supporting the DVAB Board, you help to fund this fight and support local resources such as the Hays Caldwell Women’s Center. We hope that you will participate in this event to help end dating violence. Why else should you sign up to participate? You will receive a 2019 Mock Trial t-shirt, Chik-Fil-A lunch, chips, cookie, and drink… PLUS an excused day out of school! Spots will fill up fast so bring your permission slip and $10 to get your ticket to the 2019 Dating Violence Awareness Mock Trial.
