HOSA will be collecting new and unwrapped toys through Dec. 15 outside of room D103 and A208, Jessica Chambers and Laura Milner’s classes, in addition to the counseling office for B.I.G Love Cancer Care Services, a non-profit, volunteer-based organization committed to providing basic necessities and personalized care to cancer kids and their families.
B.I.G. Love Cancer Care Services was established in February 2007 in honor of 5-year-old Brooke Alyson Phillips after her battle with acute myeloid leukemia. After two years of fighting through intense chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant, Brooke passed away on September 29, 2006.
“Although she taught us many things throughout her two years of treatment like how to trust, believe, persevere, and have faith, she also taught us how deep and wide love can really be,” Jessica Phillips said. “She had a special love for all her people, and she never ceased in expressing it.
B.I.G. Love Cancer Care fulfills weekly wishes of cancer kids and their families as well as provides new diagnosis gift bags, weekly toys, parking passes, holiday gift baskets, catered meals and a comfort cart.
“Even during her last days in the intensive care unit, she still managed to love BIG all her people,” Phillips said. “She sent out hundreds of kisses and gave the I Love You sign to everyone in the room. She told us repeatedly, ‘I love you up to the sky.’ Brooke’s Incredible Gift (B.I.G.) is Love.”
HOSA will deliver the collected donations to Dell Children’s Hospital over winter break.
